Nu-Edge Brackets were the first orthodontic appliance made of cobalt chromium (CoCr), offering friction levels lower than stainless steel brackets of similar design, along with superior biocompatibility for nickel-sensitive patients. That same CoCr performance is available in two configurations: the traditional Cobalt Chromium bracket, and Nu-Edge SL, a self-ligating design built on the same proven platform.

Nu-Edge SL sets the standard for self-ligating brackets. The design incorporates multiple options that give you flexibility for your patient needs. A distinctive slide locks the archwire into place while hidden tie wings and undercuts can be used for additional ligation, if needed — all in a single bracket with an ultra-smooth surface of cobalt chromium.

- Low nickel content – Cobalt chromium is biocompatible for nickel-sensitive patients and offers superior strength to prevent slot collapse due to occlusal forces.
- Robust Locking Mechanism – Once the slide is locked in place the archwire slot becomes a rigid tunnel preventing the bracket from being unseated. The slide is easily opened using a standard explorer and closed simply by applying finger pressure.
- Maze Base Design – The maze base is designed for optimal bond strength and unmatched adhesive retention during debonding.
- Ligation Options – Hidden tie wings allow for traditional elastomeric ligation if needed. Metal ties can also be used due to the strategically placed auxiliary wire slot.

Nu-Edge Cobalt Chromium Brackets set the standard for all metal brackets, with friction levels lower than stainless steel brackets of similar design. Nu-Edge Brackets are the first orthodontic appliance to be made of cobalt chromium (CoCr), which provides several advantages over stainless steel.
Setting new standards for low friction.
- Reduced friction – Using CoCr provides increased surface hardness, reducing friction forces, which are influenced by surface roughness and hardness. CoCr also prevents archwire slot collapse due to occlusal stress.
- Cast vs. machined – Nu-Edge Brackets are cast rather than machined or milled, producing an exceptionally smooth, precise archwire slot that further enhances the low-friction properties.
- Low nickel content – Nu-Edge Brackets give you a worry-free, biocompatible treatment option for your nickel-sensitive patients.
- Corrosion resistant – The CoCr alloy is naturally moisture-resistant.
Vertical slot.
Some prescriptions are available with vertical slots that accept auxiliaries up to 0.46mm (.018″). Recommended auxiliaries are power pins, rotating springs and individual root torquing auxiliaries. Nu-Edge Cobalt Chromium Brackets are available in MBT, Roth and BioTech.
